Press statements by the Presidents of Azerbaijan and Slovakia
President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and President of the Slovak Republic Peter Pellegrini delivered press statements in Shusha on July 14.
President Ilham Aliyev stated that political relations between Azerbaijan and Slovakia are developing successfully and the Joint Declaration on Strategic Partnership, signed in 2024, is being successfully implemented. The Head of State noted that joint projects in the fields of the economy, energy, military-technical cooperation, and other areas are being expanded. President Ilham Aliyev highly praised Slovakia’s active participation in the reconstruction of Karabakh and described the Smart Village project implemented by a Slovak company in the village of Bash Garvand in the Aghdam district as a successful example of cooperation between the two countries.
President of Slovakia Peter Pellegrini stated that he was deeply impressed by the reconstruction and development work carried out in Karabakh within a short period. He expressed pride in the participation of Slovak companies in rebuilding the region and emphasized that they are ready to continue contributing to this process in the future. President Pellegrini noted that Azerbaijan plays an important role in ensuring stability and development in the region and thanked President Ilham Aliyev for Azerbaijan’s contribution to energy security. He added that negotiations are continuing for long-term energy cooperation from 2027 onward.
The President of Slovakia also announced that direct flights between Baku and Bratislava will begin operating in October, contributing to the development of economic, tourism, and humanitarian ties. He further noted that Slovakia will continue to serve as NATO’s Contact Point Embassy in Azerbaijan in 2027–2028.
The heads of state expressed their confidence that Azerbaijani-Slovak relations will continue to develop successfully on the basis of strategic partnership.
