Visit to Saatli mosque

On August 23, during their visit to the city of Shusha, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and his wife Ziroatkhon Mirziyoyeva visited the Saatli Mosque.

The President of Uzbekistan and his wife were informed that the mosque was constructed in 1883 based on a design by architect Karbalayi Safikhan Karabakhi. The Saatli Mosque, a 19th-century architectural monument, was built on a site that previously housed adjoining madrasa and mosque buildings where Molla Panah Vagif taught. During the occupation of the city of Shusha, the Saatli Mosque, like other mosques, was destroyed by Armenians. In December 2021, restoration work on the mosque was initiated by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, and the mosque was reopened in May of this year.
