Restoration of the Basitchay State Nature Reserve
On February 14, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva, and their daughter Leyla Aliyeva visited the territory of the Basitchay State Nature Reserve in the Zangilan district, where they planted plane trees and released fish into the Basitchay River.
During the period of occupation, Armenian invaders committed ecological terror in the Basitchay Reserve, as they did in other territories. The enemy destroyed almost half of the forested area of the reserve, uprooting and burning the trees. The natural balance of the ecosystem, which had formed over many years, suffered severe damage as a result of Armenian vandalism.
President Ilham Aliyev emphasized that by destroying the rare plane tree forest of the Basitchay Reserve, the Armenians had committed ecological terror against Azerbaijan and noted that the restoration of the reserve had already begun.
