On September 27, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received the U.S. President’s Special Representative and Administrator of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Samantha Power, the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasian Affairs Yuri Kim and senior advisor for Caucasus negotiations of the U.S. Department of State Louis Bono.
During the meeting, views were exchanged on the current situation resulting from the counter-terrorism measures carried out in the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan. The President of Azerbaijan emphasized that hundreds of military vehicles, weapons, ammunition, and military supplies had been confiscated, and the disarmament of illegal Armenian armed forces and their withdrawal from Azerbaijani territory is currently underway. The President of Azerbaijan noted that during the counter-terrorism measures, no harm was inflicted on civilians, with the targets being solely illegal Armenian armed formations and military objects. Addressing the rights of the Armenian residents in the Karabakh region, President Ilham Aliyev stressed that, like other ethnic minorities living in Azerbaijan, their rights would be ensured within the framework of the country’s legislation and international obligations.
