President Ilham Aliyev’s visit to Khojaly Airport
On July 5, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev visited Khojaly Airport.
Located in the Khojaly district, 10 kilometers northeast of the city of Khankendi, in a challenging terrain, Khojaly Airport was put into operation in 1974. In 2020, the United Nations specialized agency—the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)—assigned the UBES code to Khojaly Airport confirming the airport belongs to Azerbaijan.
The area of Khojaly Airport, located at an altitude of 575 meters above sea level, is 188.5 hectares. Currently, the airport has a single runway measuring 2,170 meters in length and 45 meters in width, two taxiways, one apron, and one terminal. The apron area includes a total of three aircraft stands. A number of improvement works are planned for the infrastructure development of the Khojaly Airport. Specifically, the existing runway will be extended to 3,000 meters in length and widened to 60 meters. Work will be carried out to optimize the airport’s territory. It is planned that the overall area will cover 177.27 hectares, with the apron occupying 47,000 square meters.
