On September 19–20, Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan conducted local counter-terrorism operations in the Karabakh economic region, resulting in the destruction of combat positions, military vehicles, artillery, and anti-aircraft missile systems, radio-electronic warfare stations, and other military equipment belonging to Armenian armed forces in Khankendi and surrounding areas.
On September 20, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev addressed the Azerbaijani people via television. In his address, the head of state discussed the nature of the counter-terrorism operation and several upcoming issues, noting that Azerbaijan had fully restored its sovereignty as a result of the successful initiation and completion of the counter-terrorism measures. during the address, President Ilham Aliyev emphasized: “I want to hope that the steps we have taken and the results of the counter-terrorism measures will finally allow the removal of obstacle to peace negotiations, put, given, proposed by Armenia, whatever you call it. This will create a new reality in the South Caucasus and establish long-term peace.”
The President also mentioned that a meeting with representatives of the Armenian community living in Khankendi would be held in the city of Yevlakh on September 21. According to the Commander-in-Chief, the rights and obligations of Karabakh Armenians, including their cultural, religious, municipal and other rights, will be discussed at the Yevlakh meeting based on the Constitution and laws of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
