On May 10, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, addressed the nation from the city of Shusha on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of National Leader Heydar Aliyev.
President Ilham Aliyev, speaking about the deep respect and gratitude with which the great leader Heydar Aliyev is remembered in Azerbaijan, highlighted the life and achievements of the National Leader and the contributions he made to Azerbaijan.
Noting that the liberation of Karabakh and Shusha from occupation was the primary aspiration of Heydar Aliyev and the Azerbaijani people, President Ilham Aliyev emphasized that he specifically chose Shusha for this address: “I could have made this congratulatory address from Baku. But I decided that I should be here today, in Shusha, in front of this building. Shusha is the symbol of our Victory, Shusha is the crown of our Victory. When Shusha was liberated from occupation, it was right here in this square that the heroic Azerbaijani soldiers reported to me about the liberation of Shusha. The Azerbaijani flag was raised on the roof of this building, and the liberation of Shusha was a crucial part of our historic Victory.”
At the end of his address, President Ilham Aliyev expressed his confidence by saying, “I am sure that today my father’s soul is rejoicing, today the souls of all our ancestors are rejoicing. We must always ensure that our actions bring joy to their souls.”
