President Ilham Aliyev received special assistant to the U.S. President
On October 21, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received Michael Carpenter, Special Assistant to the President of the United States and Senior Director for Europe at the National Security Council.
Michael Carpenter expressed his gratitude for the meeting and delivered a letter from U.S. President Joseph Biden to the head of state. He emphasized that the United States supports the prompt signing of a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, noting that the current conditions present a historic opportunity for the signing of a peace agreement. Emphasizing that the signing of the peace agreement will create broad opportunities for regional cooperation, the guest expressed the United States’ firm support for moving this process forward.
The head of state said that Azerbaijan was the initiator of the peace agreement and the five foundational principles behind it, reaffirming the country’s commitment to a regional peace agenda. President Ilham Aliyev noted that Armenia’s delay of 70 days in submitting its latest proposals on the draft peace agreement raises questions about its intention to move the process forward. Emphasizing the constitutional territorial claims Armenia maintaining against Azerbaijan being a major obstacle to signing the peace agreement President Ilham Aliyev affirmed that Azerbaijan will continue to take determined steps to advance the peace process.
