Phone call between US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and President Ilham Aliyev

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken made a phone call to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on April 30. During the phone call, President Aliyev emphasized Azerbaijan’s commitment to the peace agenda and highlighted that Azerbaijan has been the initiator for starting negotiations on a peace agreement with Armenia and for normalizing relations. In this regard, Azerbaijan has proposed 5 principles to Armenia in accordance with international law and norms. Regarding the establishment of the Lachin border crossing point on the Azerbaijan–Armenia border, President Ilham Aliyev stated that its establishment has been ensured within Azerbaijan’s sovereign rights and in compliance with all international rules. The head of state underscored that the purpose is not to restrict but to ensure control over movement, and that travel is already facilitated through this checkpoint.

During the phone call, the head of state noted that the rights of the Armenian population living in the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan will be ensured within the framework of the Constitution of Azerbaijan and the international documents that our country is a party.
