On June 20, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken made a phone call to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.

During the phone call, Anthony Blinken praised the progress made in advancing the peace agenda between Armenia and Azerbaijan, emphasizing the United States’ continued commitment to supporting the normalization process between the two countries and urged the parties to sign a peace agreement soon.

President Ilham Aliyev noted that peace in the region has been established and that Azerbaijan is leading the initiative for the principles and text of the peace agreement, as well as emphasized that efforts to advance the normalization process and peace agenda on a bilateral basis are ongoing. Appreciating the determination of the USA to contribute to the peace agenda, the head of state noted the importance of ending territorial claims against Azerbaijan in Armenia’s constitution, relevant laws, and domestic normative-legal acts for advancing the peace agenda.

President Ilham Aliyev added that the time has long come to officially terminate the activity of the non-functional OSCE Minsk Group and all institutions related to it in order to completely close the page of this conflict, which is a remnant of the past.
