On September 26, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken made a phone call to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. During the phone call, the head of state emphasized that in the course of the counter-terrorism measures, which was concluded in less than 24 hours, only military objects were targeted, and no harm was done to civilians.
The U.S. side was informed that the process of disarming illegal Armenian armed forces and their withdrawal from Azerbaijani territory is currently underway. It was noted that military representatives from foreign countries accredited in Azerbaijan and a representative from the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office have inspected the collected weapons and military equipment.
President Ilham Aliyev emphasized that, like other ethnic minorities living in Azerbaijan, relevant work is currently being done to ensure the rights of Armenian residents living in the Karabakh region within the framework of the country’s legislation and international obligations. It was brought to attention that cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is being carried out in order to provide assistance to the Armenian residents, and the Azerbaijani side is ready to organize a visit of the UN Resident Liaison Office accredited in our country to the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan in the near future.
