Phone call between U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and President Ilham Aliyev

On September 1, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken made a phone call to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. During the phone call, the head of state emphasized that Armenia and the separatist regime it created and supports in Azerbaijan’s Karabakh region have deliberately obstructed the opening of the Aghdam-Khankendi road and have created artificial barriers and obstacles to prevent its use and have refused from the initial agreement reached with the help of the International Committee of the Red Cross for transporting cargo via this road.

The head of state noted that the delivery of humanitarian aid to the “Lachin” border checkpoint by Armenia without coordination with Azerbaijan constitutes interference in Azerbaijan’s internal affairs and disrespect for the country’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. The President of Azerbaijan stated that such policies by Armenia seriously damage the peace treaty negotiations. President Ilham Aliyev reminded that representatives of the Armenian population in the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan were invited to the capital Baku and other cities of our country to hold discussions on reintegration issues, but they refused.
