Phone call between Russian President Vladimir Putin and President Ilham Aliyev

On September 21, at the initiative of the Azerbaijani side, a phone call took place between the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin. President Ilham Aliyev expressed apologies and conveyed his deepest condolences regarding the tragic death of Russian peacekeepers in Karabakh on September 20. It was emphasized that a thorough investigation would be conducted, and all responsible individuals would be duly punished. The President of Azerbaijan also stated readiness to provide financial assistance to the families of the deceased.

The parties highlighted the importance of consistently implementing the agreements achieved with the help of the Russian peacekeeping contingent regarding the complete cessation of military operations in Karabakh. In this context, great significance is attributed to the contacts initiated on September 21 in the city of Yevlakh between representatives of Azerbaijani state structures and the Armenian population of Karabakh, with the participation of the Russian peacekeeping contingent.
