On October 7, European Council President Charles Michel made a phone call to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.
During the phone call, the head of state noted that including the name of Azerbaijan in the quadrilateral declaration without the participation of Azerbaijan in Granada is not the right approach. President Ilham Aliyev also noted that Azerbaijan did not attend the meeting in Grenada due to France’s position on the matter. The head of state emphasized that France’s provision of arms to Armenia is an approach that serves not peace, but a new conflict, and if any new conflict occurs in the region, France will be responsible of it.
Furthermore, the head of state pointed out that the anti-Azerbaijani statement adopted by the European Parliament, on the basis of xenophobic and chauvinistic approach and the opinions expressed in it are unacceptable and said that such statements do not contribute to peace and stability in the region. President Ilham Aliyev also highlighted the ongoing occupation of eight Azerbaijani villages by Armenia, emphasizing the importance of their liberation.
