On May 10, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva, and family members participated in the opening ceremony of the Yukhari Govhar Agha Mosque in Shusha following its comprehensive reconstruction and restoration.
The restoration work began in late 2021 at the Yukhari Govhar Agha Mosque, listed as a monument of national historical and cultural significance, was completed. To date, reinforcement work has been carried out on the mosque. Interventions made by Armenians during the occupation period have been removed. Large rock fragments brought from Shusha to Baku were used in a workshop for stone cutting and figure preparation for window frames. The painting work and application of a protective layer on the minarets have been completed, and the mosque’s roof has been constructed. The restoration also covered the madrasa building. The construction of the wooden roof structure of the madrasa section of the mosque has been completed. Existing floor covering has been removed and the remnants cleaned up.
