Opening ceremony of Victory Park
On November 8, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva, and their son Heydar Aliyev attended the opening ceremony of Victory Park in Baku.
The head of state raised the tricolor National Flag of Azerbaijan here, and laid wreaths and flowers in front of the Victory Monument. The head of state then addressed the nation, congratulating the people of Azerbaijan and the Armed Forces on the occasion of Victory Day.
Victory Park, located on 8 November Avenue in the capital, covers an area of nearly 10 hectares. At the park’s entrance, the Victory Arch was constructed as a symbol of the 44-day Patriotic War, measuring 44 meters high, 22 meters wide, and having 44 columns.
A memorial monument reflecting the November 8—Victory Day, has also been erected at the entrance to the park. The monument embodies Victory Day and unshakable unity. A green area has been planted around the memorial, reflecting the patterns and decorative elements of Karabakh carpets. To commemorate the path to historic victory for the liberation of our lands, and honor the soldiers and officers who fought heroically during the Patriotic War, as well as all the martyrs, a Victory Museum is also being established within the park grounds.
