Opening ceremony of the Shafag substation

On May 9, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev attended the opening ceremony of the 330 kV Shafag substation of Azerenergy OJSC in Soltanli village in the Jabrayil district.

Extensive work has been carried out to integrate the 240-megawatt Shafag solar power plant, built by bp in Jabrayil, into the energy system, as the first industrial-scale solar power plant and the largest foreign direct investment project in the liberated territories.

Within this framework, Azerenergy constructed a 330 kV digital substation in Jabrayil and to connect this substation to the country’s electricity grid, a 7.5-kilometer long 330 kV double-circuit high-voltage transmission line was installed to the Jabrayil energy hub.

The substation has been equipped with modern digital systems, open and enclosed switchgear facilities, and advanced control equipment. A digital control center has been established on-site, and a micro-SCADA dispatch system enabling remote operation has been installed and integrated into the central SCADA system. The workforce employed at the substation has been selected primarily from among the newly resettled local residents, who were recruited after completing the necessary training programs.
