Opening ceremony of the Mamayi Mosque after restoration

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva participated in the opening of the Mamayi Mosque in Shusha following its restoration.

Restoration work, led by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation with the support of PASHA Holding, at the mosque and the spring located in its vicinity began in 2023. The Mamayi Mosque, located in the Mamayi neighborhood in the central part of the city, was built in the late 19th century. The two-story mosque with a rectangular plan structure has a columned interior.

During the occupation, both the mosque and the nearby spring were left in a state of disrepair. Armenian occupiers tried to Armenianize the Mamayi spring in the area, as well as many monuments in the city. They erased the inscriptions on the spring and replaced it with a sign of the cross, and carved a sign in Armenian and Russian languages on the stones of the spring. However, all traces of Armenian vandalism have been removed during the restoration process.
