Opening ceremony of the Karabakh University following renovation

On September 20, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev attended the opening of the renovated Karabakh University in the city of Khankendi.

President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree on November 28, 2023, on the establishment of Karabakh University. According to the decree, in order to meet the demand for highly qualified specialists tailored to the socio-economic needs of the region and to preserve its historic educational traditions, Karabakh University was established as a public legal entity under the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, based on the existing higher education institution in Khankendi.

Comprehensive landscaping and renovation works were carried out across the university campus. The park in front of the main academic building was demolished, and a new park in its place, meeting modern requirements, was built on an area of ​​2.3 hectares.

Currently, Karabakh University operates in three academic buildings. The main building houses the faculties of Pedagogy, Engineering, Humanities and Social Sciences, Economics, and Tourism, the second building is home to the Faculty of Arts, while the third accommodates the International Language Center. All academic buildings have undergone thorough renovation.

6 laboratories have been established at the university (physics, chemistry, mechatronics, robotics, computer and graphic design, computer and programming). 200 students can use the services of the university library simultaneously. The library’s collection includes more than 6,000 textbooks and other literature in Azerbaijani, English, and Russian.

In the initial stage of this academic year, personnel training at Karabakh University will be conducted in 6 faculties: Pedagogy, Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, Economics, Engineering, and Tourism. Currently, the university has 160 employees. 60 of them are members of the academic staff and 100 are members of the administrative and technical staff.

For the 2024/2025 academic year, the undergraduate admission plan included 1,120 slots. Based on the results of the State Examination Center’s entrance exams, 1,104 students were admitted, fulfilling 98.5% of the quota. Of the students admitted to the Karabakh University, 101 scored over 600 points, and 385 scored over 500 points. The highest recorded score was 683.8 in the Law program. An Olympiad winner was admitted to the university’s Electrical and Electronics Engineering program without competition. The average admission score across I–IV subject groups was 467.6.
