Opening ceremony of the Ashagi Malibay and Mirik hydroelectric power stations in Lachin
On May 27, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev attended the opening ceremony of the Ashagi Malibay and Mirik hydroelectric power stations of Azerenergy Open Joint Stock Company in Lachin and launched their operations.
The Ashagi Malibay and Mirik hydroelectric power stations were built on the section of the Zabukh River, a right tributary of the Hakari River, passing through the villages of Malibeyli and Mirik in the Lachin district. The latest modern equipment has been installed and optical cable lines have been laid at the 3.1 MW Ashaghi Malibey and 3.5 MW Mirik hydroelectric power stations. Thus, the stations were integrated into the centralized SCADA system of the national power grid.
It is planned that the Ashagi Malibay and Mirik hydroelectric power stations will produce 20 million kilowatt-hours of green energy annually, which will save approximately 4.3 million cubic meters of natural gas. This, in turn, will prevent the emission of around 8,000 tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere each year. The new stations will employ residents of the Lachin district.
