Meeting with the President of Iran in Khankendi

On July 4, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev met with President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian in Khankendi. The sides emphasized that Azerbaijan and Iran are friendly, neighboring, and brotherly countries, noting the deep historical, cultural, and religious ties between them.

President Ilham Aliyev thanked President of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian for participating in the 17th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization and highlighted the significance of his official visit to Azerbaijan in April, noting that it opened a new chapter in bilateral relations. The President also emphasized that developing relations with muslim countries, particularly neighboring states, remains a priority of Azerbaijan’s foreign policy. During the meeting, President Ilham Aliyev noted that immediately after the conflict between Israel and Iran, Azerbaijan supported Iran’s position, expressed condolences for those killed during the incident, and demonstrated solidarity.

President Masoud Pezeshkian expressed gratitude for Azerbaijan’s support, noted the increase in the number of Baku–Tehran and Baku–Tabriz flights, the progress of the Aghband–Kalala road bridge project, and touched upon other areas of cooperation.
