Meeting with residents who relocated to the Karkijahan settlement

On December 23, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev met with residents who have relocated to the Karkijahan settlement of Khankendi city.

President Ilham Aliyev congratulated the residents on their return to their native lands after 34 years, noting that Azerbaijan’s territories have been liberated from occupation and all former displaced persons are gradually returning to their ancestral homes. The Head of State emphasized that the Great Return program is one of the most successful return projects on a global scale.

As a result of the anti-terror operation carried out in 2023, the Karkijahan settlement together with Khankendi was liberated from occupation and full sovereignty was restored. President Ilham Aliyev recalled that during his visit to the settlement in October, he had given instructions regarding the restoration of houses, the school, and infrastructure, and noted that all conditions for living have now been created there.

Residents expressed their gratitude to the Head of State, stating that they had lived in difficult conditions for many years.
