November
On November 7, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva inspected the Fortress Wall and the surrounding area in the city of Shusha.
The city of Shusha, whose foundation was laid in 1752 by Panah Ali Khan, the Khan of Karabakh, was initially known as Panahabad in honor of the Khan, alongside its name Shusha. In later periods, the city was simply called as Fortress. Eventually, the people began calling the fortress Shusha Fortress, and later just Shusha. The Shusha Fortress had three main gates: Ganja, Iravan, and Aghoghlan gates. The names of all three gates are frequently mentioned in historical sources and are also marked on all master plans of Shusha drawn in the 19th century.
Immediately after the city’s liberation from occupation, restoration work began on the historic Shusha Fortress. The inscription “Shusha” on the fortress was restored.
