October
On October 15, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev visited the Askeran fortress.
The head of state inspected the Askeran fortress and its surroundings. Built in the 18th century by the order of Panah Ali Khan, the Khan of Karabakh, the Askeran fortress is a brilliant example of Azerbaijani architecture. The fortress is located 24 kilometers from Shusha and 5 kilometers from Khojaly. After the city of Khojaly was occupied by the armed forces of Armenia in 1992, the fortress was subjected to destruction. On September 19–20 this year, the Askeran fortress was liberated from separatists as a result of local counter-terrorism measures carried out by the Azerbaijani Army in Karabakh.
