Inauguration ceremony of Lachin International Airport

On May 28, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and President of the Republic of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan attended the inauguration ceremony of Lachin International Airport. The presidents cut a symbolic ribbon to officially open the airport. They were presented with symbolic keys to the airport. Afterwards, the heads of state familiarized themselves with the conditions created at the airport.

The foundation of Lachin International Airport, which is the third international airport constructed in the liberated territories and located in a complex mountainous terrain, was laid in 2021 by President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva. Situated at an altitude of 1,700 meters above sea level in the village of Gorchu in the Lachin district, the airport spans a total area of over 130 hectares. Azerbaijan’s highest-altitude airport – Lachin International Airport is located 30 kilometers from Lachin city, 70 kilometers from Shusha, and 60 kilometers from Kalbajar.

The airport features a runway that is 3,000 meters long and 60 meters wide, allowing for the accommodation of aircraft of any type. The 5,000-square-meter terminal building is capable of serving at least 200 passengers per hour. The air traffic control tower, equipped with fully automated systems, ensures that flights are managed in accordance with international regulations and safety standards. The infrastructure established here complies with ICAO and IATA standards, enabling safe and efficient flight operations.
