Groundbreaking for the Khojaly Genocide Memorial and meeting with representatives of the district community

On February 26, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev met with representatives of the district community in the city of Khojaly and subsequently laid the foundation for the Khojaly Genocide Memorial.

In his speech at the meeting, President Ilham Aliyev stated: “For the first time, we are commemorating the Khojaly Genocide Day here in Khojaly, honoring the memory of the innocent victims of Khojaly. After thirty-two years, we have returned to our native land. To eternalize the memory of the Khojaly victims, the foundation of this memorial complex will be laid here today, on February 26.”

Later, the head of state and representatives of the Khojaly district community visited the city of Khankendi. The head of state also took commemorative photos with residents in both Khojaly and Khankendi.
