Groundbreaking ceremony for the Shams and Ufug Solar Power Plants

On October 28, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev laid the foundation for the Shams and Ufug Solar Power Plants, each with a capacity of 50 megawatts, in the village of Shahvalli, Jabrayil district.

The Shams and Ufug Solar Power Plants are expected to produce a total of 206 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. As a result, approximately 44 million cubic meters of natural gas will be saved each year, while harmful emissions released into the atmosphere will be reduced by 96,000 tons. Of the electricity generated at the stations, 75 million kilowatt-hours will be supplied to Azerenergy OJSC, while 131 million kilowatt-hours will be sold under direct purchase agreements signed with large consumers based on the principle of virtual electricity transmission.

The Shams and Ufug Solar Power Plants are planned to be commissioned in 2027.
