Groundbreaking ceremony for the Khankendi Railway and Bus Terminal Complex
On July 3, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev laid the foundation for the Khankendi Railway and Bus Terminal Complex.
The Aghdam–Khankendi railway line, an extension of the Barda–Aghdam railway, will have a total length of 28 kilometers, or 34.7 kilometers including side tracks. The design work for the Aghdam–Khankendi line has been completed, covering four bridges, five overpasses, three pedestrian crossings, and two culverts. The project also envisions the construction of three stations — Asgaran and Khojaly stations, and the Khankendi Railway and Bus Terminal Complex — as well as engineering structures, bridges, overpasses, road, pedestrian, and agricultural crossings, and other necessary infrastructure. The implementation period of the project is planned for 2025–2026.
Design work for the Khankendi Railway and Bus Terminal Complex has already begun. The facility will cover an area of 6.4 hectares. The five-story facility will include two railway platforms and 12 bus stops. The building will feature a waiting hall, ticket offices, a medical station, a mother-and-child room, shops, restaurants, administrative and conference rooms, a children’s entertainment center, an open-air terrace, and relaxation areas. The railway section of the complex will serve 800–1,000 passengers per day, while the bus terminal will accommodate 1,000–1,200 passengers daily.
