Foundation of Secondary School No.1 in Shusha

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva, and their daughters Leyla Aliyeva and Arzu Aliyeva attended the foundation ceremony of the Secondary School No.1 in Shusha.

The foundation of the first secular school in Azerbaijan and the South Caucasus was laid here in 1830. In 1980, following the initiative of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, the 150th anniversary of the school was celebrated. The school was operated as School No. 1 prior to the occupation. However, later on, the building was completely destroyed as a result of Armenian vandalism.

Three million Manats were allocated to the Ministry of Education from the President’s reserve fund to design and construct this school building for 960 pupils.
