On May 19, a commissioning ceremony for the Khudaferin hydro junction station and the opening of the Giz Galasi hydro junction station were held with the participation of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi. The heads of states inaugurated the Khudaferin and Giz Galasi hydro junction stations.
The Khudaferin and Giz Galasi hydro junction stations, built on the Aras River along the border between Azerbaijan and Iran, were constructed for electricity generation and irrigation purposes. Currently, the Khudaferin reservoir holds 503 million cubic meters of water, and the Giz Galasi reservoir holds 42 million cubic meters, which represents 40% and 85% of their total capacities, respectively.
