President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev paid a working visit to Brussels, the capital of the Kingdom of Belgium, at the invitation of President of the European Council Charles Michel on May 22. Within the framework of the visit, a one-on-one meeting was held between President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and President of the European Council Charles Michel.
During the meeting, while noting Azerbaijan presented five principles that are based on international law for the normalization of relations and the signing of a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan, President Ilham Aliyev stated that Azerbaijan had determined the composition of the Working Group to start negotiations on the peace treaty at the end of April, as well as the composition of the national commission on border delimitation and is ready for negotiations in this regard according to the results of the meeting held between Azerbaijan, Armenia and the European Union on April 6 of this year. President Ilham Aliyev also stressed the importance of clarifying the issue of landmines in the liberated territories and the fate of about 4,000 people who are considered missing in the First Karabakh war. The President also underlined the need for Armenia to implement all the provisions of the 10 November Statement. The head of our state expressed his hope that the process of preparing a peace treaty between the two countries would be quickly implemented and underlined the importance of implementing all the provisions of the November 10 Statement by Armenia.
The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, once again expressed the European Union’s determination to support the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, stated that he will continue mediation efforts, and underlined the importance of the previous meetings held in this format.
