Acquaintance with the works planned to be carried out at the building of Khankendi State Drama Theatre

On September 19, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev reviewed the works planned to be carried out at the building of the Khankendi State Drama Theatre.

The building of the Khankendi State Drama Theater was built and put into operation by the Azerbaijani government in 1932. Certain structural modifications were made to the building in 1949. The building reflects key elements of Soviet-era architecture. The theatre building was included in the list of immovable historical and cultural monuments of local importance by Decision No. 132 of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan, dated August 2, 2001, as a 20th-century architectural monument.

In November 2023, during a monitoring visit by experts from the Ministry of Culture and other relevant institutions to cultural establishments in the city of Khankendi, the theatre building was also inspected. It was determined that the building was rendered unusable during the occupation and is in need of major restoration.
