One of the historical and religious monuments exposed to Armenian vandalism in Karabakh is a mosque located in the village of Giyasli in the Aghdam region. During the occupation of Aghdam by the Armenian Armed Forces in 1993, the mosque dated to the 18th century was set on fire by a machine gun and burnt down.
The Giyasli mosque was registered as an architectural monument of local significance in 2001. Restoration works have been launched here after the liberation of our lands from the Armenian occupation. Currently, the Heydar Aliyev Foundation continues the restoration of the Giyasli mosque.
On May 28, during his visit to Aghdam, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev viewed the restoration work at the Giyasli Mosque.
