Familiarization with restoration and reconstruction works at the Giyasly Mosque
On May 28, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev reviewed the ongoing restoration and reconstruction works at the Giyasly Mosque located in Aghdam.
The Giyasly Mosque, one of the historical and religious monuments in Karabakh that suffered from Armenian vandalism, dates back to the 18th century. During the occupation of Aghdam by the Armenian armed forces in 1993, the mosque was targeted by machine gun fire and set ablaze.
The Giyasly Mosque was registered as a locally significant architectural monument in 2001, following the liberation of Azerbaijan’s territories from occupation, restoration work on this monument, along with other historical and religious sites, was launched. Currently, restoration of the mosque is being carried out by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.
