On August 25, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva got acquainted with the progress of construction works at the Lachin International Airport.
The foundation of Lachin International Airport was laid in 2021, and its construction is planned to be completed in 2025. The runway of the airport will be 3,000 meters long and 60 meters wide. The airport, built near the village of Gorchu at an altitude of 1,800 meters above sea level, will be one of the highest altitude airports in the post-Soviet space.
The terminal building of the airport, designed in accordance with international standards, will have an area of 5,000 square meters and will be able to serve 200 passengers per hour. The conditions created at the Lachin International Airport will allow flights to be carried out in accordance with ICAO and IATA standards. The airport is located 30 kilometers from Lachin city, 70 kilometers from Shusha, and 60 kilometers from Kalbajar. In addition to its strategic importance, this airport will also enable the development of the region’s tourism potential in the future.
