Acquaintance with construction work on the Kalbajar–Lachin highway
On May 28, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and President of the Republic of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan inspected the construction work being carried out on the Kalbajar–Lachin highway.
The road, which starts from the village of Gamishli in the Kalbajar district and passes through the territory of the Lachin district, connecting these two districts, will feature 2, 3, and 4 traffic lanes. Of the 17 road tunnels planned along the route, construction work is successfully ongoing on 16, while the design of one tunnel is still underway.
According to the new project, the length of the existing 126-kilometer Kalbajar–Lachin highway will be reduced by 32.2 kilometers, resulting in a total distance of 93.8 kilometers between the city centers of Kalbajar and Lachin. The current road distance from Lachin city center to Lachin International Airport is 65 kilometers. The distance on the newly constructed road will be 35.8 kilometers. As part of the project, a bridge branching off at the 40th kilometer of the road and leading to Lachin International Airport is also being built. Overall, 44 percent of the construction work on the Kalbajar–Lachin highway has been completed.
