Acquaintance with the works carried out under the Toghanaly–Kalbajar–Istisu highway project

On September 2, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva got acquainted with the work carried out in the 4th tunnel and the 15.2-kilometer section of the road, which is being built within the framework of the Toghanaly-Kalbajar-Istisu highway project in the Kalbajar district.

The construction of the Toghanaly–Kalbajar–Istisu highway is progressing rapidly within the framework of the broader reconstruction and restoration efforts in the territories liberated from occupation. The length of the existing road is 100 kilometers, while the newly designed route is 82 kilometers long. A number of works along the road have already been completed. The tunnel located between the 34.9 and 35.4 km marks of the road measures 500 meters in length and 8 meters in width. According to the project, 6 junctions with a total length of 2 meters along the road have been reconstructed. The construction of 36 connecting roads with a total length of 5600 meters is also underway.

The length of the highway connecting the Goygol and Kalbajar districts is 56 kilometers in the Toghanaly–Kalbajar section and 26 kilometers in the Kalbajar-Istisu section.

At the 13th kilometer of the Toghanaly –Kalbajar section, the Murovdag mountain range begins, with elevations rising from 1,700 meters to 3,260 meters. In this section, the construction of the Murovdag Tunnel, which will be one of the longest automobile tunnels in the world, continues. The tunnel will feature two traffic lanes in one direction, with a width of 10 meters. Additionally, four other tunnels, measuring 561.2 meters, 626.9 meters, 500 meters, and 947.9 meters in length, are also being constructed. Work continues on the construction of connecting roads linking the right and left sections of the Murovdag Tunnel, which will be 23.4 kilometers long.
