Visit of the Presidents of Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan to the city of Shusha
On July 5, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov, both on a visit to Azerbaijan, toured the city of Shusha. After speaking with local residents at the first residential complex in Shusha, which consists of 23 buildings, the presidents took a walk around the city.
During the tour, the distinguished guests were informed about the project of the new Shusha Mosque. According to the information, the mosque, whose foundation was laid in ancient Shusha, will also be an eye-catching example of modern architecture. The mosque, which has two minarets, and a dome decorated with mosaics, was designed jointly by Azerbaijani and Italian architects. The mosque’s exterior will be decorated with geometric patterns similar to those used on the minarets of Shusha’s ancient mosques. The foundation stone of the new mosque was laid on May 12, 2021, by President Ilham Aliyev, First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva, and their daughters Leyla Aliyeva and Arzu Aliyeva.
Later, Presidents Ilham Aliyev, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and Sadyr Japarov visited the Ashaghi Govhar Agha Mosque and got acquainted with the construction work carried out by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation with the support of PASHA Holding.
The heads of state then toured the city by bus and arrived at the Jidir Duzu, one of the symbols of Shusha, historically known for horse races and as a venue of local population’s Nowruz celebrations and other public festivities since the era of the Karabakh Khanate.
