On May 27, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev participated in the groundbreaking ceremony for the Gorchu settlement in the Lachin district. During the ceremony, the head of state laid the foundation of the settlement.
Located in a mountainous area in the northwest of Lachin, on the banks of the Gorchu River, a tributary of the Shalva River, the Gorchu settlement is being planned along with the villages of Aghalarushaghi, Oghuldara, Zaghalti, Garabeyli, Korjabulag, and Lolabaghirli. The planning work for the settlement, which covers a total area of 300 hectares, will be carried out in stages. The first phase will cover an area of 142.54 hectares.
In the first phase, the construction of 366 single-story individual houses is planned to accommodate the residents who will be relocated to the Gorchu settlement. Each individual house will have a yard of 700 square meters. Given the rugged terrain, future development of the Gorchu settlement will include quarters with 39 four-story residential buildings. To meet educational needs, a 264-seat school and a 140-seat kindergarten will be built in the initial phase, with future plans for a 864-seat school and a 280-seat kindergarten.
