Restoration and reconstruction works at the Zangilan Mosque

On April 26, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva, and their daughter Leyla Aliyeva visited the Zangilan Mosque, where restoration work is being carried out by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, and placed a commemorative stone inscribed with the words “The foundation of the Zangilan Mosque was laid by President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on April 26, 2021” into the wall of the mosque.

During the thirty years of Armenian occupation, as in other liberated territories, historical, religious, and cultural monuments in the Zangilan district were subjected to Armenian vandalism, destroyed and desecrated. During the occupation, the mosque in Zangilan city was also misused as a cattle shed.
