Opening of Sadigjan’s House following restoration

On July 11, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev attended the opening ceremony of Sadigjan’s House, a historical and architectural monument in Shusha, following its restoration.

During the occupation of the city of Shusha, the building remained neglected for many years, resulting in severe deterioration of its roof, floors, and stone masonry. Some of the building’s architectural elements were damaged, while its engineering infrastructure became completely unusable. Under a decree signed by President Ilham Aliyev in 2022, funding was allocated for the restoration project, and restoration work commenced in 2024.

The House Museum of Sadigjan, consisting of a basement and two above-ground floors, is located on Sadigjan Street in the city of Shusha. Its pointed-arch windows and the use of relatively large stones around the entrance give the building distinctive architectural character. The House Museum of Sadigjan is included in Azerbaijan’s list of historical and architectural monuments of national significance. The House Museum features exhibition halls dedicated to the life and work of Sadigjan, Azerbaijan’s national musical heritage, and Shusha’s rich literary and artistic environment, as well as a concert hall, a mugham exhibition room, a café, a souvenir shop, a registration area, and a musical instrument workshop.

During the event, the Head of State was informed about the artwork Voice of Eternity. This sculptural composition is a symbolic artistic interpretation of the tar, Azerbaijan’s national musical instrument. In the composition, the image of a tree emerging from the strings of the tar symbolizes music as something that springs from the land, draws strength from the nation’s cultural memory, and is reborn into life. The tree represents roots, continuity, and renewal. The work is dedicated to the rich cultural heritage of Shusha, widely regarded as the cradle of Azerbaijani music. The author of the sculpture is Honoured Artist Rashad Mehdiyev.
