Inauguration of Hydroelectric Power Plants on the Hochaz River

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev attended the inauguration of the Aghbulag-1, Aghbulag-2, and Sheylanli hydroelectric power stations located on the Hochaz River in Lachin via video link on July 11.

As part of the 14.7 MW Aghbulag-1 Hydroelectric Power Plant project, a modern water intake facility was constructed, and a 4.8-kilometer-long diversion pipeline with a diameter of 1,200 millimeters was installed to deliver water to the plant. The station will generate 93.2 million kilowatt-hours of environmentally friendly electricity annually.

To ensure the reliable integration of the 14.25 MW Aghbulag-2 Hydroelectric Power Plant into the national energy system, a new 110/10 kV substation with a capacity of 16 MVA was built, and a 5.7-kilometer-long diversion pipeline was constructed to provide water supply. The plant will generate 87.3 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year.

As part of the 4 MW Sheylanli Hydroelectric Power Plant project, a water intake facility was built at an altitude of 1,460 meters, and a 4.8-kilometer-long diversion pipeline was laid across challenging mountainous terrain. The station will generate 19.4 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually.

Built using modern technologies and international expertise and equipped with SCADA systems, these three hydroelectric power plants will be integrated into Azerbaijan’s unified energy system, enabling the generation of more than 200 million kWh of environmentally friendly electricity annually. As a result, approximately 45 million cubic meters of natural gas will be saved annually, and nearly 80,000 tons of carbon emissions will be prevented from being released into the atmosphere.
