Inspection of the bullet-riddled statues in Shusha
On June 23, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedow viewed the statues of prominent Azerbaijani figures Khurshidbanu Natavan, Bulbul, and Uzeyir Hajibayli in Shusha, which had been riddled with bullets by Armenians during the occupation.
The President of Turkmenistan was informed that these busts, which were subjected to Armenian vandalism during the occupation, were looted, taken to Armenia, and an attempt was made to melt them down as scrap metal. Thanks to the efforts of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, the statues were retrieved from Armenia and brought to Azerbaijan, where they were temporarily kept in the courtyard of the Museum of Arts in Baku and after the liberation of Shusha, they were returned to their original locations.
