Press statement by the Presidents of Azerbaijan and the United States, and the Prime Minister of Armenia at the White House

On August 8, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, President of the United States of America Donald Trump, and Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan delivered a press statement at the White House.

During the meeting, the parties announced that they had reached an understanding on the establishment of a long-term peace in the South Caucasus, the promotion of mutual trust, and the broadening of opportunities for cooperation.

President of the United States of America Donald Trump underscored the historic significance of bringing an end to the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, which had persisted for more than 35 years and further characterized the agreement achieved as a major diplomatic accomplishment. President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev described the establishment of strategic partnership relations with the United States, as well as the removal of restrictions between the two states, as a historic milestone. He emphasized that the agreement created new opportunities for peace and stability in the Caucasus region. Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan described the initialing of the peace agreement as a turning point that ended the conflict. He emphasized that economic cooperation and security in the region will be strengthened. The parties consented to the establishment of a new transport and economic corridor, designated as the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity.”
