Inspection of the bullet-riddled statues in Shusha
On July 17, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Chairman of the People’s Council of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow viewed the statues of prominent Azerbaijani figures Khurshidbanu Natavan, Bulbul, and Uzeyir Hajibayli in Shusha, which had been riddled with bullets by Armenians during the occupation.
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow was informed that during the occupation, Armenians attempted to take these statues to Armenia to have them melted down. Thanks to the efforts of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, the statues were retrieved from Armenia and brought to Azerbaijan, where they were temporarily kept in the courtyard of the Museum of Arts in Baku. After Shusha was liberated from occupation, the statues were restored to their original locations.
